Who We Are

The Way began in 2023. We invited about 60 kids from a local after school program, in a small Vila in Porto Alegre, Brazil, to attend a Zoom bible study. Our first meeting was 5 young people and today about 14 kids participate regularly, studying God’s word together, memorizing Scripture, doing life together and learning to be followers of Jesus.

Every Saturday, for the past 3 years, we meet on Zoom, led by founders Nathan and Fabiana Krey, from Steamboat Springs, Colorado (USA). The bible study is translated from English to Portugues in real time by Fabi and her brother, Ronaldo. Several local volunteers help set up meetings, transport kids, lead games and make lunch. The Way currently borrows space wherever we can, often moving from place to place. We are hoping to find a  more permanent and larger meeting space, as the group continues to grow. Fabi grew up in this poor Vila in southern Brazil and knows firsthand the challenges these kids face. We are honored to help the youth of Porto Alegre learn God’s word, develop and succeed in life.

After year one, we added English class, following the bible study. The kids love Ms. Lucy, a local teacher, who is helping them learn an important new skill. We are building a small library and encourage the kids to read books like C.S. Lewis’s, Chronicles of Narnia or Jack London’s, Call of the Wild. Some of our youth attend weekly chess club. Jonas, our chess star, recently took second place in a local tournament. We love helping kids try new things, find hobbies and learn new skills. Most families in the Vila would not be able to afford these opportunities without our help.
